Tesla sets record for electric car deliveries - 422,875 cars shipped in first quarter 2023

A $7500 tax credit and price cuts have helped Tesla ramp up deliveries of electric vehicles in the first quarter of 2023. What's more, the US manufacturer was able to set a record.

Here's What We Know

From January to March 2023, Tesla produced 19,437 high-end Model S and Model X electric cars, as well as 421,371 low-cost Model 3 and Model Y. 10,695 and 412,180 vehicles were delivered to customers, respectively.

Total deliveries amounted to 422,875 vehicles compared to 310,048 units in the first quarter of 2022. Despite the new record, analysts were expecting more. They predicted that the company would be able to ship 10,000 more vehicles.

So Tesla produced a total of 440,808 electric vehicles and delivered 422,875 vehicles to customers. Production is up about 1,000 vehicles from the end of 2022 and more than 135,000 units from the first quarter of 2022.

The Model 3 and Model Y low-cost electric vehicles continue to account for the lion's share of the sales mix. In the reporting period they accounted for 97.5 percent compared to 95.8 percent in the last quarter of last year. Correspondingly, the share of the Model S / X decreased from 4.2% to 2.5% and sales fell by around 6,500 vehicles in volume terms.

A more detailed quarterly report will be published on 19 April 2023. For the full year 2023, Tesla plans to produce 1.8 to 2 million electric vehicles, given the best of circumstances.
