Elden Ring became one of the biggest game releases in YouTube history

Elden Ring has already blown the box office and collected great scores, but there's another metric where the game has set a serious record: YouTube views among all releases.

The stats were published by IGN, citing YouTube Gaming data.

Popular games in their first 60 days of release:

  • Elden Ring - 3.4 billion views
  • GTA V - 1.9 billion views
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 - 1.4 billion views
  • Super Mario Odyssey - 828 million views
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild - 638 million views
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - 456 million views

Two things are noted:

  • Many games have been restricted by YouTube audience volume of their period. For example, GTA V came out in 2013, when YouTube had a smaller audience than Elden Ring did in 2022.
  • Google doesn't reveal the games whose views of the release were higher than Elden Ring, but still calls it one of the most popular games, not the most popular.
