Chief Monetisation Designer leaves Naughty Dog after 10 months of work, he worked on The Last of Us multiplayer game
In early October, Kotaku wrote that Naughty Dog had laid off 25 employees. It was also reported that the multiplayer game The Last of Us was in production hell. Amid all these events, the chief monetisation designer left the studio.
Here's What We Know
Anders Howard joined Naughty Dog in November 2022, but now he has updated his LinkedIn profile, where he said that he left the studio in September 2023. The profile also states that he was working on a multiplayer game in the TLoU universe. Before that, Anders worked at Epic Games, where he contributed to the creation and development of the Fortnite Battle Pass. And before joining Naugty Dog, he worked for 10 months at Ubisoft, where he developed the economy system for a new IP.
In general, rumours that TLoU is in trouble, and the layoffs at Naughty Dog indicate that the studio has strayed from its path. The trend towards game services makes it clear that if you're making some of the best story-driven games, you should keep making story-driven games, not try to reinvent the wheel.
