Is it safe to share sensitive information through telegram chats?

I’ve been using Telegram for a while now and really like its features, but I’ve started wondering about the security of my chats, especially when sharing sensitive information. Does anyone know if it’s actually safe to share things like personal documents or financial details through Telegram chats? Are there any specific precautions we should be taking to ensure our information stays private? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I switched to Signal for any conversations that involve sensitive info. It’s open source, and all chats are end-to-end encrypted by default, which makes me feel more secure.

From what I know, secret chats are safer since they’re end-to-end encrypted, but normal chats are only encrypted between your device and Telegram’s servers. I wouldn’t share sensitive information in a regular chat just to be safe.

I agree with using secret chats for anything sensitive. Plus, you can set a self-destruct timer for the messages, which adds another layer of security. Just don’t forget to start a secret chat each time.

Just a heads up: if you’re in a group chat, messages aren’t end-to-end encrypted. They’re stored on Telegram’s servers. So, maybe think twice before sharing personal stuff in those.

While Signal is known for its security, saying it’s safer than Telegram isn’t entirely accurate. Telegram offers cloud-based storage for easy access across devices, has two-step verification, and features like secret chats with end-to-end encryption. Plus, Telegram’s active session management lets users monitor all logged-in devices, adding another layer of security. Both use strong encryption protocols, but Telegram’s additional features for managing privacy and user control make it a reliable choice for many users.

Why worry about security when you can just send sensitive info via carrier pigeon? Much more reliable than any chat app, and the pigeons are end-to-end encrypted by nature))))

Honestly, I wouldn’t trust any app 100%( with my sensitive info. Even with end-to-end encryption, there’s always a risk if someone gains access to your phone or account.

I read somewhere that Telegram’s encryption protocol is custom-built, and not everyone is convinced it’s the best. Maybe that’s something to consider if security is your main concern.

If you’re really concerned, just write your sensitive info on a piece of paper, eat it, and then try to recall it when needed. 100% secure, and no hacker can access your stomach (yet) XDD*)

I think it’s generally okay for casual conversations, but if it’s something really sensitive, I’d probably use another method, like a secure email service. Better safe than sorry, right?
