Italian Eurofighter Typhoon fighters have carried out the first launches of Meteor BVRAAM medium-range missiles
The Italian Air Force plans to integrate Meteor BVRAAM medium-range missiles on the TF-2000A fighter jets, better known as the Eurofighter Typhoon. The service recently conducted live launches, completing the first phase of testing.
Here's What We Know
The Italian Air Force has successfully completed the first phase of operational testing and evaluation of the Meteor BVRAAM medium-range air-to-air missile. The tests took place in the Hebrides Islands off the coast of Scotland.
Italy has launched the Phase 2 Enhancement bravo programme, which aims to enhance air combat capabilities. The second phase of the tests will take place late next year and the third, which will be the final phase, is scheduled for the end of 2026.
As part of the recent tests, the Italian Air Force used the Meteor version of the TOM (Telemetric Operational Missile). It allows in-flight recording of the data needed to assess real-world characterisation.
