NASA announces first flight of huge SLS lunar rocket

Northrop Grumman showed impressive footage of firing tests of SLS lunar rocket booster fire tests, into space and has already announced possible launch dates.

What we know

NASA is tentatively planning to launch the rocket on Aug. 29, but that date is not final yet because it all depends on whether the team can finish all the work in time. Reserve windows are Sept. 2 and Sept. 5. The space agency will announce the exact dates a week before the launch.

Specialists of the space agency are working to eliminate deficiencies that were found during previous tests. Note that all tests of the SLS ended unsuccessfully.

The rocket will send Orion spacecraft in the Artemis 2 mission. The crew will consist of four astronauts. The ship will return to Earth after orbiting the moon. In the third mission Artemis is planned to land astronauts on the moon.
