New version of Tesla full self driving mode was tested in "tough conditions". [video]
While Tesla specialists continue to improve algorithms of full self driving system, the creator of YouTube channel AI DRIVR has demonstrated an interesting video of the tenth version of self driving operation. This is a 20-minute video, demonstrating driving on hilly terrain, and the author himself shares his impressions about the skills of the new version.
The main difficulty of the selected route, which the version 10.2 autopilot must overcome, is the large number of sharp turns with no or limited visibility. In addition, on this route, the car must also outrun cyclists and at the same time accurately predict the location of other vehicles, as well as cars suddenly appearing from narrow streets, and pedestrians appearing just as suddenly from equally narrow streets.
The author of the video notes that Tesla managed to achieve extremely impressive results in the operation of the system of full self driving. Although this is a beta version, it mimics human behaviour quite accurately. The computer-controlled electric car enters and exits very smoothly even the toughest turns, without sudden braking or sharp acceleration.
