The test confirmed the feasibility of developing artificial intelligence for the CCA programme, under which the US Air Force wants 1,000 guided combat drones. The drones will work in conjunction with manned aircraft to distract enemy air defences and conduct strikes.
During a test flight, the XQ-58A Valkyrie drone flew alongside an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet. The US Air Force plans to use winged drones with sixth-generation aircraft and the F-35 Lightning II in the future.
