The Ryze Tech Tello is a high-quality drone that is perfect for taking amazing videos and pictures. It has a powerful image processor that lets you record pro-level videos with EZ Shots and share them on social media from your smartphone. The camera takes 5MP (2592x1936) photos and HD720 videos.Tello has two antennas that make video transmission extra stable. The angle of view is 82.6 degrees. At the bottom there are two infrared sensors and an additional camera. They are used for visual positioning, the presence of which, by the way, sets it apart from the competitors.

The battery is removable. According to the manufacturer, it lasts for 13 minutes of flight but we found out that this are probably some ideal conditions, because it lasted for about 12 minutes. It is charged through the micro-usb connector, which is located on the copter. This is very cool because you don't need to carry around some additional external charging; it can recharge from a conventional power bank.

It is controlled from your smartphone, that is connected to the Wi-Fi network created by the copter. This is good because it is very simple on the smartphone touch screen and is also not very good because when you get used to the physical sticks as on copters with an external remote control then it feels a little unusual. Another scenario is connecting an external gamepad to your smartphone to control it. It connects via Bluetooth without any problems and is pulled into the Tello app.

There are two flight modes for easy flying: normal and high-speed. In the latter, Tello accelerates to 8 meters per second, which is almost 30 km/h. This mode is recommended for outside only, because at home it is simply dangerous. Although the declared flight range is up to 100m, this value varies greatly depending on the presence of external interference.

An important point is that the drone doesn’t have a built-in memory card, so the videos are saved directly to your smartphone. It is a very unpleasant moment because if the connection is bad, the video’s bitrate goes down, and, respectively, it loses in quality.

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Sturdy construction
  • Programming options
  • Camera 720p HD Video
  • Camera 4K Photo

Cons:

  • No built-in memory card
  • Minor delay in control

Best Drones under $100 — Buyer’s Guide

Flying Time

Flight time is one of the most important things in a drone. Many professional drones have flight time of 40-50 minutes. But they will suit you if you are engaged in professional video editing, photography. They will cost about 500 or more. We already wrote a review about the best drones under 500, so you can check it. But if you just want to learn or you're buying a drone for your kid, the flight time of the drones on the current list is 10 min or more. You can fly, see what's in your vicinity, take pictures or videos and come back.

Speed

Some drones have one speed. And that's good enough for you, but there are some that have two or three speeds. Often this helps newbies, learn or try the first one and go to a higher speed.

Functions

You can pay attention to the functions of each drone separately, which ones you like or need. Most drones are similar in operation, but have differences in extra functions. Whether you want your drone to do 3D flips or have control via APP is what you can choose by yourself.

Drones extra features:

  • Gesture control
  • Gravity sensor
  • Altitude hold
  • 3D flip
  • Custom route
  • Self defense function
  • GPS
  • 1- 2- 3-speed
  • One-button takeoff/landing function
  • 360° swivel function
  • Voice control
  • APP control

Camera

The camera is important for the drone if you are going to take video or photos. It goes without saying that the better the camera the better the picture you will have. In drones under $100 the camera is good enough for its price. You can take nice pictures.

Size

If you plan to take the drone with you on trips, on walks or anywhere else, you should pay attention to its size. Almost all drones we have selected are not big, there are some mini drones, such as DJI Ryze Tech Tello

Weight

Weight is also important for some users, but it's up to you. The lower the weight, the less resistance it has in strong winds. There is also a point in the registration of the drone. For example, in the USA drones with the weight of over 250 grams need to be registered in the FAA. More detail on the issue you can find in our Best drones under $200 review. Every country is different, so pay attention to such nuances or if you take your drone on a trip to another country.

Best Drones under $100 — FAQ

What happens if a drone goes out of range?

There are drones that have a GPS function. These drones automatically return when they lose signal or the battery runs out. Often these drones cost under $200. If the quadcopter has no GPS, then there can be such a function as emergency landing, then it automatically begins to land if it loses the signal from the remote control. But if the drone has no such functions, then we advise you not to lose sight of it, so that in case of signal loss (if the flight distance is exceeded or failure) you can always see where your drone lands and where to look for it.

How far can a drone fly?

It all depends on the specific model, often more budget drones can fly from 25m to 100m. The higher the price, the greater the range.

Conclusion

That's it, we've looked at the best drones and how they differ from each other. We wish you ещ find the right drone for you and enjoy flying, because a drone is an incredible flying device, giving lots of fun to fly and allowing you to get up in the air to take great photos and videos. The drone provides many opportunities for both entertainment and aesthetic shots of your surroundings. Fly with pleasure.
