Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment's follow-up to its 2019 cult hit, lands on September 24 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) — and the studio just released a five-minute recap video to make sure nobody feels lost when they step in. The sequel stars Dylan Faden, brother of original protagonist Jesse, and picks up seven years after the first game's ending.

The recap

The new video covers the essentials of the original Control: what the Federal Bureau of Control is, why its headquarters sits inside the brutalist Oldest House, who Jesse Faden is, and how her brother Dylan fits into everything. It's aimed squarely at newcomers, but even returning players who've forgotten the finer points of Remedy's famously labyrinthine lore will find it useful — especially since Control Resonant also connects loosely to Alan Wake 2.

What's changed

Control Resonant moves the action out of the Oldest House and onto the streets of Manhattan, which has been warped by a supernatural catastrophe. Buildings hang in mid-air, some rotated 90 or even 180 degrees, and the city is overrun with otherworldly creatures that escaped the FBC's headquarters. The game has also shifted genre: where the original was a third-person shooter, Resonant leans into melee-driven action closer in feel to Devil May Cry. Remedy estimates around 30 hours for the main story and 50 hours for full completion.

Pricing is positioned as a deliberate undercut of the autumn AAA crowd: the standard edition costs $59.99 in the US and £49.99 in the UK (Smyths Toys has it for £44.99). A Digital Deluxe and SteelBook Edition run $69.99 / £59.99 and include 48-hour early access on PS5, meaning Digital Deluxe buyers on PlayStation can start playing September 22. Physical editions for all versions are delayed to October 15. A Mac release is also planned for later in 2026, per Remedy official.

The pre-order picture

The game has already racked up over 1.5 million wishlists and sits in the top three pre-ordered PS5 titles in the US, Germany, and Brazil, according to Game Developer. Remedy self-publishes the title after buying back the Control IP from 505 Games for €17 million in February 2024. GeForce NOW support means cloud play is also an option if you'd rather not download the full game.
