Australia has changed its mind about buying S-100 Camcopter drones and has cancelled an $837 million contract with Austrian company Schiebel

Australia will not buy S-10 Camcopter drones. The government has cancelled a multi-million dollar deal with Austrian firm Schiebel.

Here's What We Know

The contract was approved by the previous Australian government. Recently, Schiebel spokesperson Neil Hunter said that negotiations to supply drones to the Royal Australian Navy have been terminated.

The deal was for the Sea129 Phase 5 project. The Department of Defence is exploring options to move forward with Phase 5 of the programme. The decision to cancel the purchase of the S-100 drones follows a review by the Defence Strategic Review.

Last May, Schiebel was selected to supply dozens of S-100 Camcopter reconnaissance drones to the Royal Australian Navy. The value of the deal was approximately $837 million.
