Latvia wants to purchase M142 HIMARS jet systems for more than €300,000,000
Following Estonia, Latvia has expressed its desire to purchase multiple rocket launchers M142 HIMARS.
What we know
This was announced by Janis Garisons, Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. The Latvian government hopes to have the first missile systems by 2025. At the same time the Defense Ministry realizes that deliveries of HIMARS may be delayed due to high demand from Ukraine.
The purchase of multiple launch rocket systems M142 HIMARS is a common project of all Baltic countries. Earlier we wrote that Estonia wants to buy MLRS and missiles, including ATACMS with a launch range of 300 km. The government will allocate €500,000,000 for this.
The Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Defense announced that it has sent an inquiry to the U.S. government regarding the availability and cost M142 HIMARS. An answer is expected by the end of the summer. How many rocket systems Latvia wants to buy is not yet specified, but more than €300,000,000 will be allocated for the purchase.
