Ukraine received the first Gepard self-propelled air defense systems - they can destroy targets at a range of up to 4.5 km
The Armed Forces of Ukraine received the first anti-aircraft systems Gepard from Germany.
What we know
This was announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov during the national TV marathon. According to him, Germany also handed over several dozen rounds of ammunition for anti-aircraft self-propelled guns.
In total Ukraine will receive 15 units Gepard, according to the minister. The first three anti-aircraft guns have already arrived in Ukraine and were received by the Armed Forces of the country.
Gepard: features
Gepard is a German-made anti-aircraft system, which is used to destroy enemy air and ground targets. The unit is equipped with two rifled automatic cannons of 35 mm caliber, machine gun MG-3 caliber 7.62 mm and radar station RPK-2.
The combat vehicle is equipped with V-shaped 10-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 830 horsepower. Maximum speed is 65 km/h and range is 550 km. The first antiaircraft self-propelled machine was produced in 1973 and entered service three years later.
The Gepard can hit air targets at a range of up to 4 km and at an altitude of up to 3 km, which fly at no more than 400 m/s (1440 km/h). The anti-aircraft gun is also capable of destroying ground and surface targets at a range of up to 4.5 km.
