Russians Bring Rare Buk-M2 Air Defense Systems to Ukraine to Intercept HIMARS GMLRS Missiles
The Russian army continues to look for ways to fight against HIMARS missile systems. For this purpose, the occupiers began to relocate rare anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.
What we know
We are talking about the Buk-M2 SAM system. This is a new upgrade of the old Soviet Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile systems. Several units have been spotted in temporarily occupied Melitopol. They are issued by a 9C36 radar station to detect targets that fly at low altitudes.
"Buk-M2" is not only new, but also a rare anti-aircraft missile system. The first SAM appeared in about 15 years ago. In total, the Russian army has about a hundred surface-to-air missile systems in service.
It is assumed that Buk-M2 will help Russians to intercept GMLRS missiles for HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. Reaction time is 10 seconds. According to official data, the anti-aircraft missile system can destroy air objects, which move at a speed of 1100 m/s to meet and up to 400 m/s in pursuit.
