China for the first time uses long-range artillery and launches hypersonic missile DF-17 "Aircraft Carrier Killer" in training exercise near Taiwan
The People's Liberation Army of China plans to use most of its weapons in exercises around Taiwan.
What we know
In an unprecedented military exercise that has already begun along the coast of Taiwan and will last for three days, China will engage long-range artillery for the first time in its history. Curiously, the missiles will fly over the island itself, while the Chinese army will be 12 nautical miles (22.22 km) away.
The hypersonic missile DF-17 will also be used. The launch of the ballistic missile was reported a few days ago. DF-17 is called the "aircraft carrier killer". It is designed to destroy air targets at the distance up to 2500 km. The missile itself can reach speeds of up to 12,000 km/h and is capable of carrying several types of warheads, including nuclear.
