Joint Fire Support Missile - cruise missile for HIMARS, M270 MLRS and MARS II with a launch range of 499 km and GMLRS-level power

In July we wrote about the JFS-M missile for MARS II. Now let's talk about the specifications of the projectile.

What we know

Not only MARS II, but also HIMARS with M270 MLRS will be able to use the Joint Fire Support Missile. The purpose of the new missile is to extend the range of the launchers. The projectile is being worked on by MBDA.

The missile will be 2.6 m long and 1.5 m wingspan. The starting mass JFS-M will be 250-300 kg. Such dimensions will allow to put two Joint Fire Support Missiles in HIMARS as well as four in MARS II and M270 MLRS.

JFS-M could destroy "standard infrastructure" of the enemy. It is assumed that the weight of the warhead will be approximately 30% of the initial mass, i.e. 75-90 kg, as in the case of GMLRS projectiles. At the same time, the use of an electronic warfare system could reduce the missile's power.

Maximum launch range of Joint Fire Support Missile will be 499 km. The missile is expected to be completed within 3-5 years.
