What we know
Mariusz Blaszczak, head of the Polish Defense Ministry, said so. According to the Minister, the Air Force of the country will use aircraft from South Korea and the United States. The defense chief has faced criticism over the equipment purchases, but he stressed that he is buying weapons that have been battle-tested and guarantee the country's security.
The Polish Air Force now uses American F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. At the end of July, the ministry signed a contract for 48 South Korean FA-50 aircraft. Deliveries will begin in 2023.
In addition, Poland will receive its first American F-35 Lightning II in 2024 as part of a $4.6 billion contract awarded in January 2020. Poland will receive 32 fifth-generation fighters. The agreement also includes training of 24 pilots.
