Greece Upgrades 38 American F-16 Fighting Falcons
Greece plans to send a letter to Washington requesting equipment to upgrade F-16 Block 50 fighters.
What we know
The work will take place at Nea Anchialos airbase. The Greek Air Force intends to modernize 38 U.S. fighter jets to improve the combat capabilities of the country's military aviation.
Hellenic Aerospace Industry has already begun upgrading F-16C/D to the F-16 Viper standard. There are now 84 U.S. aircraft undergoing modernization at the Tanagra facility.
The Greek Air Force has more than 150 F-16 fighters in various modifications. Initially the Greeks wanted to modernize 123 aircraft, but because of the high cost of the project (almost €2 billion), this idea had to be abandoned.
In conclusion, let us add that Greece wants to buy about two dozen F-35 fifth-generation fighters. The country's Air Force is also getting Rafale planes.
