Portuguese M113A2 armored personnel carriers were seen for the first time on the frontline in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have shown for the first time the M113A2 armored personnel carriers that were handed over by Portugal.

Here's What We Know

Previously, the Ukrainian Defense Forces did not share photos of these armored personnel carriers. The Armed Forces received a total of 14 combat vehicles, accounting for 10% of the total number of APCs in service with the Portuguese army. They arrived in Ukraine in mid-summer.

M113A2 is a modification of M113 armored personnel carrier, which appeared in 1979. The modernization improved engine cooling by changing the location of the fan and radiator. Also new shock absorbers were added.

APC has overall dimensions: 2.52 x 2.69 x 5.3 m. Length compared to M113 has been increased by about 50 cm. Weight of the vehicle is 10.31 tons compared with 9.13 tons. M113A2 is equipped with a diesel engine produced by GM company with a capacity of about 200 horsepower. The armored personnel carrier has a cruising range of 500 km and can reach up to 64 km/h on the highway.
