Turkish defence company Roketsan is working on a new aircraft missile. It is called UMTAS-GM.

Here's What We Know

The missile is on the Turkish manufacturer's list of 40 classified developments. Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci made the announcement during an interaction with journalists.

The company has already built a prototype rocket and is testing it. Mass production will start at the end of 2023. According to the CEO, the UMTAS-GM will have an extended range compared to the UMTAS anti-tank missile, which can hit targets up to 8km away.

The Roketsan project is expected to close the Turkish Armed Forces' demand for anti-tank munitions. The UMTAS-GM will be carried by Turkey's new T29 ATAK-II helicopter. The company also plans to sell the missile to other countries.

The UMTAS-GM is being developed as a competitor to Israel's Spike anti-tank missile. Specifications have not yet been specified.
