Some Samsung Smart TVs will get Xbox cloud gaming features

Microsoft is working on a plan to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to as many devices as possible. By the end of this month, Samsung smart TVs will offer another method to stream Xbox games without the need of having a console. Also Microsoft's service now extends its availability in two new countries.

From June 30 through an app, Samsung's 2022 smart TVs will include Xbox Cloud Gaming. The new TVs will support Bluetooth controllers from both Microsoft and Sony. Samsung will bring them to market in 27 countries, including Argentina and New Zealand, where Xbox Cloud Gaming is already available on Windows, PC, and mobile devices - starting today.

The service will be accessible through the Samsung Gaming Hub, which connects cloud gaming platforms such as Nvidia GeForce Now, Google Stadia, and Utomik. The TVs have motion enhancing and other technology that should improve picture quality and reduce latency.

Bringing cloud gaming to mobile devices and low-end laptops is a no-brainer, given their widespread adoption and portability. However, Game Pass subscribers shopping for new TVs are likely already playing games on Xbox or PC. Microsoft may be hoping that releasing a smart TV app will introduce its subscription service to Samsung TV owners who don't have consoles. Redmond is currently developing a cheap streaming dongle, but it'll require additional development time.

Microsoft also announced that later this year, Game Pass Ultimate tier subscribers will be able to play certain games in their library from the cloud, even if they aren't on Game Pass. Another feature Microsoft has in mind is developer-provided demo videos. It said the initiative would try to replicate the thrill of playing hands-on demos at events like E3, which have become less frequent in recent years.
