DJI Air 2S, worth of $999, recorded a unique video in the Himalayas from the top of Mount K2 at 8,611 meters

British photographer Sandro Gromen-Hayes shot probably the most unique video with a Chinese quadcopter DJI Air 2S.

What we know

The $999 drone was used to record video on Mount K2 in the Himalayas. The video was shot at an altitude of 8,611 meters above sea level. By that the Chinese company says the maximum height is 5,000 meters above sea level. In general, DJI does not exclude that Air 2S can operate at altitudes of 5 km, but does not guarantee the normal performance of the drone.

This is not the first attempt of the British guy to lift a drone to 8,000 meters (above sea level). The first time he wanted to conquer the top of Mount Manaslu I (8156 m), but the remote control "died" before the start. The second time Gromen-Hayes launched a quadcopter on Everest (8,848 m), but the drone reached only 7,900 m and crashed because of strong winds.

For reference, K2 is the second highest mountain peak in the world, second only to Everest. It is also the northernmost mountain on the planet at more than 8,000 meters. Because of the extremely high difficulty of climbing, K2 has been nicknamed the Savage Mountain. The mortality rate is about 23% per 367 attempts to reach the pick (2018).
