Ukraine has only 5 of 15 Panzerhaubitze 2000 left in working condition - but Russia has not destroyed a single howitzer
Marcus Faber of the Free Democratic Party of Germany reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces can now use only a third of the 155-mm howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000. However, not a single artillery piece has been destroyed.
What we know
Germany and the Netherlands supplied in total 15 self-propelled artillery units of Panzerhaubitze 2000 (or PzH 2000) to Ukraine. However, only five howitzers remain in working order. The reason is the very active use of the artillery pieces and the slow supply of spare parts for them.
The Bundestag, the Bundeswehr and the Ukrainian Defense Ministry have not yet commented on this information in any way. However, a few days ago Der Spiegel wrote that due to the intensive firing, Panzerhaubitze 2000 which were transferred to Ukraine, began to malfunction. In this connection Germany wants to open a center for repair of military equipment in Poland to save time on transportation.
The German politician was criticized that such a statement could have played into the hands of the Russians. He replied that the information about the problems with the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery units appeared a week ago. Perhaps he is referring to the mentioned Der Spiegel article.
