LG has successfully tested 6G terahertz reception and transmission

LG continues to work on the development of sixth-generation cellular communications. As part of a new round of tests, the South Korean manufacturer tested the reception and transmission of data in the 6G terahertz range at a distance of 320 meters.

Here's What We Know

The tests took place at Berlin's Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications. Specialists conducted the tests Sept. 7 outdoors in the 155-175 GHz frequency range. LG says this is a big step forward toward the commercialization of 6G cellular communications in urban environments.

A multi-channel power amplifier (20 dBm) was used in the tests. It was specifically designed for this test on behalf of LG. A low-noise amplifier was used to improve the quality of the incoming signal.

6G networks will provide a 50-fold increase in peak data rate compared to 5G. Delay times will be reduced by a factor of 10. The standardization of sixth-generation networks is scheduled for 2025, and commercialization will not begin until 2029.
