CD Project Red has announced a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive Mode. The game will support DLSS 3.0, ray tracing will become even better, and lighting will be more realistic

At the NVIDIA GTC CD presentation, Project Red announced a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 that will add Overdrive Mode to the game. This mode makes all shadows and lighting in the game more realistic.

Here's What We Know

Overdrive Mode is a number of new NVIDIA technologies that significantly accelerate and improve the quality of ray tracing workloads for high performance when playing on GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards. This will help to get a high quality image with a stable frame rate and smoothness.

The focus will be on neon, which is a key element on the streets of Nightcity in Cyberpunk 2077. Now every neon sign, street lamp, car headlight, LED billboard and TV will be given precise beam lighting. Indirect lighting is now reflected several times, not just once as before. This will increase the accuracy and realism of global lighting. In general, RTX Direct Illumination technology will be added with the update, which will provide all light sources with more accurate RT lighting and shadows.

Jakub Knapik, Art Director, CD PROJECT RED squealed that CD Project Red is very proud to be technology innovators and DLSS 3.0 gives them a significant performance boost to meet the challenge of adding an even higher level of ray tracing to provide a visually rich experience for gamers.

Flashback

Cyberpunk 2077 will be one of 37 games to immediately support NVIDIA's DLSS 3.0 technology. DLSS 3 is an AI-based scaling technology that significantly improves performance while maintaining superior image quality. This will help owners of upcoming GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards to play with the highest graphics settings using ray tracing without losing stability, smoothness, and frame rates.

When We Can Expect It

There is no exact release date for the update, but it should happen as soon as possible after the release of the first Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards, which are scheduled for release on October 12.
