Everything you need to know before the release of God of War Ragnarok on November 9: plot, gameplay, game features and battles with the Norse gods

God of War Ragnarok will be released on November 9. We have already written about dozens of trailers, interviews with developers and gameplay features. Now it's time to put it all together and prepare gamers for the game release.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for God of War (2018)

Plot Of The Game

Ragnarok is a direct sequel to God of War (2018). After Kratos and his son Atreus killed the son of Odin Baldr, the 3-year winter of Fimbulvinter began in the world of the game, after which Ragnarok will come. So now Kratos and Atreus are preparing for this event. Kratos no longer looks at his son with contempt, because the journey that the heroes went through in the last game seriously united them. And Atreus, it should be noted, has grown up a lot and does not look like a little boy. He is already an independent warrior. But their relationship will not be perfect, they will reach a new level and will reveal the theme of "parents and children" as much as possible. At the same time, Baldar's mother Freya will hunt our duo with a desire for revenge, and the heroes in parallel with this will have to travel the Nine Realms, meet new characters and destroy the entire Scandinavian pantheon led by Thor and Odin.

Gameplay

In general, the game can be divided into 3 stages: travel, puzzle solving and battles with opponents. The latter is worth talking about the most. The developers listened to the fans, and Ragnarok should have more varieties of enemies, minibosses and large creatures. In total, the game will have 11 factions. During battles, The God of War: Ragnarok developers revealed the combat system, new enemies, Kratos' power, and Atreus' new battle capabilities. Now he does not hesitate to improvise and move regardless of what his father does. Kratos will become even stronger, so you will have access to new features and combinations that will dilute the gameplay. Battles have become more "vertical". The God of War can climb a hill to fight on it, or jump down to attack from above.

As for the puzzles, they also worked on them and they should be better than in the previous game.

Features of the Game

First of all, it is worth noting that from the very beginning Santa Monica developed the game for PlayStation 4. The developers wanted to support fans, so PS4 owners do not worry about optimization and feel free to go on this journey.

The game paid great attention to additional tasks. The Washington Post reporter Gene Park said that the level of side quests is better than in the cult The Withcer 3.

Much attention was paid to each world. In the 2018 game, most of the worlds were simple arenas for battles. Now each world is unique and full. For example, the world of dwarves Svartalfheim is unique in that it contains many different biomes: from wetlands to mountain springs. Svartalfheim looks like an industrial city, where every house, building or workshop is harmoniously combined with each other, and the inhabitants of this world make us believe that they really live here.

Flashback

The project is developed by Santa Monica studio. The events unfold in the Scandinavian mythology and tell about the plight of the former Greek god of war Kratos, who, having moved to Scandinavia, started a family and is trying to become a real father to his young son Atreus. However, the traumas of the past do not allow Kratos to get over himself.

Metarctic has already published 110 reviews. Based on them, the game received 94 points out of 100. God of War Ragnarok is already called a candidate for the title "Game of the Year".
