The animation director of God of War: Ragnarok said that Santa Monica was originally developing the game for PlayStation 4

In an interview with Eurogamer, animation director Bruno Velazquez said that originally God of War: Ragnarok was originally developed for PlayStation 4.

Here's What We Know

The developers created the game for PlayStation 4 to support fans:

"We wanted to support the fanbase - we had so many people that had enjoyed the game on PS4. So from the very beginning, we knew, okay, this is going to be a PS4 game; we're going to make this the best PS4 game we can make. Our goal was to surpass God of War 2018 in every way possible".

Bruno added that the PS5 version is just the icing on the cake. The development team will use all possible features of the console to give players an unforgettable adventure:

"PS5, it's just like haptic feedback, 3D audio, higher frame-rate and better graphics and textures. That's just like the icing on the cake. So of course the PS5 version is going to be the best way to experience it, but the PS4 [version] is going to be one of the games that pushes the PS4 to the max. Taking that philosophy and approach into it helped us to set the goalposts for ourselves, that we want to make a great PS4 experience and an even better PS5 experience".

Bruno also noted that creating a game for PlayStation 4 never made developers feel limited by the console's capabilities and power. In the world of recent news, such statements, when some studios suddenly cancel versions for last generation consoles and we get a game on PS5/Xbox Series in 30 frames, sounds ironic.

Flashback

God of War Ragnarok is a direct sequel to God of War (2018). The project is developed by Santa Monica studio. The events unfold in Scandinavian mythology and tell about the plight of the former Greek god of war Kratos (Kratoc), who moved to Scandinavia, started a family and is trying to become a real father to his young son Atreus. However, the traumas of the past do not allow Kratos to get over himself.

When We Can Expect It

God of War Ragnarok will be released on November 9, 2022 exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
