Shorts International wants to sue Google for the name of the YouTube Shorts section

The British company Shorts International plans to prohibit Google from using the word Shorts in the name of the short video section. The plaintiff says YouTube Shorts infringes its trademark.

Here's What We Know

Shorts International is a British producer of short films. The company, which has been in business for more than 20 years, believes that the name YouTube Shorts misleads people. According to the plaintiff, users might think that Google has acquired Shorts International.

Google was given the opportunity to resolve the issues in the High Court of the United Kingdom. The American company says that if it is defeated, it will face big expenses for technical changes of the service and rebranding.

Recall that Alphabet, whose parent holding company includes Google, launched YouTube Shorts in September 2020. The platform was a response to the very popular services TikTok and Reels.
