IDC: Smartphone market in China fell by 5%

Analytical company IDC released a report on the state of the smartphone market in China.

What was told

According to the report, the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2017 decreased by 15.7% compared to the same quarter in 2016. In general, for the year 2017 the market declined by 4.9%. From October to December, 114.3 million shipments were registered, and for the whole of 2017 - 444.3 million. In 2016 this number was 467.3 million.

Apple remains the leader in the premium segment, but shipments of smartphones have decreased by 10% compared to 2016. 85% of all sales of the company exceeded the $ 600 mark. This is mainly due to the iPhone X. The nearest competitor of this smartphone was Huawei Mate 10. But, despite the fact that the new iPhone was introduced a month later, he was able to bypass his competitor.

Huawei has maintained its leadership and is still the largest player in the Chinese market. The result of 2017 is associated with the supply of ultra-budget smartphones - less than $ 200. For the whole year the company shipped 90.9 million Huawei and Honor devices.

The leader in the mid-budget segment remains Oppo and Vivo, owned by BBK Electronics. Samsung, unfortunately, did not even hit the top 5. Companies are very difficult to compete with local smartphone manufacturers. And her South Korean colleague LG is going to leave the mobile phone market in China .

In the dry residue

The situation in the Chinese market does not change - the leading positions are occupied by Chinese manufacturers and Apple. The market decline of almost 5% is due to the fact that companies are starting to raise prices for their products and budget smartphones are becoming less. Also, according to IDC, some manufacturers were not able to attract consumers to purchase new devices.
