The Russians may have shot down their own fourth-generation Su-35 fighter jet with an export value of more than $100 million

Russian propagandists have claimed the loss of a Su-35S fighter jet. It is possible that it was destroyed as a result of friendly fire.

Here's What We Know

The Russians confirm the loss of the aircraft, but do not specify what exactly happened. According to Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov, the fourth-generation fighter jet was shot down by Russian air defence in the Zaporizhzhya region. The pilot was killed.

The Su-35 is a multi-role fighter aircraft of the Russian Federation's air and space forces. The serial version of the aircraft is named S-35S. The cost to russia is estimated at about $40-60 million, while the export price may exceed $100 million.

The fourth-generation fighter is equipped with a turbojet engine with a controlled thrust vector. The aircraft has a maximum speed of 2,500 km/h (M=2.3). The Su-35 has a 30mm aircraft cannon and can carry up to 8 tonnes of payload, including anti-ship missiles and long-range missiles.
