In October, WhatsApp added the ability to delete sent messages, but only within seven minutes of sending. Now the developers decided to increase the time limit by almost an order of magnitude - up to 1 hour 8 minutes and 16 seconds.
Whence such number?
It seems that the WhatsApp team has not yet decided on the gap and set a preliminary upper limit of 2 ^ 12 = 4096 seconds. Before that, in test versions of the application, you could delete messages in 8 minutes and 32 seconds from the time of sending (2 ^ 9 = 512 seconds), but in the final release, the developers stopped at 7 minutes. Most likely, the new limit will eventually round to an hour.
Where does it work?
The new feature is already available in the updated iOS-application (v2.18.31), as well as in the WhatsApp beta client for Android (starting with v2.18.69). Deleting messages will work only if both users have a new version installed.
What are the competitors?
Telegram allows you to remove excess from the chat within 48 hours, Viber has this function is not limited in time. Facebook Messenger does not allow you to clean up the correspondence, and Google Allo can only delete messages on the user's device.
