Airbnb bans security cameras in rooms

Airbnb, one of the leading home rental services, has announced important changes to its policy on the use of security cameras.

Here's What We Know

Starting from 30 April, hosts will no longer be allowed to use internal security cameras, regardless of their location and purpose.

The previous policy allowed security cameras to be installed in common areas. After numerous reports of hidden cameras being found, Airbnb has taken decisive action to ensure the privacy and safety of its customers.

In addition, the new policy establishes mandatory disclosure of information about external CCTV cameras before booking a property. Hosts are also required to disclose the use of decibel noise monitors.

The head of policy and partnerships at Airbnb emphasised that these changes were implemented after consultations with users and privacy experts

"Hosts have until the end of April to remove indoor cameras from their listings, and violation of this rule may result in the removal of the listing or the host's account. These innovations should provide greater security and trust among Airbnb users worldwide.
