Hideaki Itsuno talks about the importance of "affinity" and its impact on the game world in Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2 boasts a bigger world, improved summons, and the ability to fight three bosses at once. Among the details about the Pawn specialisations, Dragon Plague, and Summoner Masters, one of the most important aspects is Affinity.

Here's What We Know

In a conversation with Automaton-Media, director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed its importance in the sequel. The design of the open world is heavily influenced by Affinity, affecting various in-game events and relationships with NPCs. For example, raising Affinity in a parent can improve their relationship with their child. Itsuno said:

"It’s almost the entire reason why we made the game open-world. There will be many events that occur/don’t occur depending on Affinity, and relationships between NPCs will also be important. For example, if you raise your Affinity with the parent of a child, your Affinity with the child will increase as well. On the other hand, NPCs can also fall out with each other. We’ve ‘powered up’ the Affinity feature a lot…and sneaked in a lot of things"
