WhatsApp will make it easier to publish text status updates

Meta-owned WhatsApp is making changes to its Android beta version, making the process of posting statuses more convenient. In the latest update to the beta version (v2.24.7.16), a new status editor page has been revealed that offers a "Text" option along with "Video" and "Photo" options.

New status editor page in WhatsApp beta version

WhatsApp currently only supports video and photo updates via the "My Status" option under the "Updates" tab. The status as image/video can also be activated by tapping on the camera button located at the bottom right corner of the "Updates" tab.

Right now, users can access the text status editor by clicking on the pencil icon in the "Updates" tab. However, once logged into the editor/viewer page, WhatsApp does not allow you to change the status type (text, photo, video). The only option in this case is to go back and start again.

With all these factors in mind, merging the three types of status updates is understandable as it makes them more accessible and in fewer taps. This new feature is expected to be available to more beta testers in the near future.
