Dell to lay off 13,000 employees in 2023

Dell Technologies Inc. cut 13,000 employees during its last fiscal year, a sharper reduction in staff than originally announced.

Here's What We Know

According to Dell, it had 120,000 employees as of 2 February worldwide. This is almost 10% less than the previous year. In a statement, the tech giant noted that these were forced actions to cut costs and optimise production.

Dell's layoffs for fiscal year 2024 were higher than expected. The number of employees worldwide has decreased by 13,000 over the past year. Sources indicate that weak sales of technology prompted the company to announce the cuts in early 2023, when Dell's management announced its intention to lay off about 6,650 employees.

A Dell spokesperson stressed that the disclosure reflects their ongoing commitment to evaluate the business to ensure competitiveness and execution.

Although the company is known for its personal computers, it attracted investor attention last year for its powerful servers, which are needed to handle artificial intelligence workloads. This led to the company's share price rising to near record levels.
