South Korea upgrades its F-15Ks for $2.9 billion

The Air Force of the Republic of Korea will upgrade the radar systems of F-15K Eagle aircraft and increase their range.

Here's What We Know

The Defence Acquisition Programme Administration has announced that the project is needed to improve the performance of the relatively old F-15Ks. The new versions of the aircraft will be equipped with newer systems that will identify targets faster and more accurately.

According to the upgrade programme, the aircraft will be equipped with the AN/APG-82 scanning radar, Eagle BAE Systems AN/ALQ-250 passive and active warning systems, and a larger display. It is noted that the project is scheduled for 2024 to 2034.

South Korea has 59 of these fighters in service and they are the main part of the country's air defence.

Flashback

The F-15K Slam Eagle is a derivative of the F-15E Strike Eagle and the latest 4th generation fighter-bomber manufactured by Boeing. This two-seat aircraft is used only by the Republic of Korea Air Force.
