Keanu Reeves has joined the cast of the next Sonic movie: What role will the Matrix star play?

The Matrix and John Wick star Keanu Reeves has joined the cast of Paramount's third Sonic film.

According to the well-known publications The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Reeves will take on the role of Shadow, an anthropomorphic hedgehog known for his jet-powered sneakers and love of weapons.

This news came as a surprise to fans who were already expecting the next Sonic film.

In addition, director Jeff Fowler confirmed that the film will be inspired by Sonic Adventure 2, which further emphasises the expectations for its release.

"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" will premiere in cinemas on 20 December.
