Hideo Kojima shares his impressions after watching the Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol

The documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, about the siege of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in March 2024. Now, Hideo Kojima, the author of Deaths Stranding, has watched the film and shared his impressions.

Hideo shared his thoughts on the film on Twitter and wrote the following:

"Though overshadowed by news of new wars, successive earthquakes, and other disasters, the war in Ukraine continues to this day. This documentary captures the desperation over a 20-day period, from the immediate aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine to the evacuation from Mariupol. Cut off from the outside world with no phones or internet, it portrays the reality of the "endless war" unfolding within. The film challenges the true meaning of journalism and the nature of war to those of us who take no notice of the avalanche of fake news on social media. “Wars don’t start with explosions; they start with silence.” These words, spoken quietly by the reporter at the beginning of the film, I cannot forget".

Kojima's post has already garnered more than 500,000 views, and it's important when people with such an audience talk about this film and call a spade a spade, because then there is a chance that even more people will watch the 20 days in Mariupol and know the truth, and see what Russia really is.
