Australia accuses China of intercepting its helicopter

The Australian government says a Chinese Air Force fighter jet fired flares at a dangerous distance from an Australian Armed Forces helicopter in the Yellow Sea.

Here's What We Know

A Chinese J-10 fighter jet intercepted a Royal Australian Navy MH-60R helicopter in the Yellow Sea and "fired flares across the flight path of the Australian Defence Force helicopter".

The Australian warship was in the area in support of Operation Argos, which enforces UN sanctions against North Korea.

According to the AP, Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said that a Chinese J-10 fighter jet fired flares about 300 metres in front of the helicopter and about 60 metres above it. Canberra called China's behaviour "dangerous and unprofessional".
