TSMC is gearing up for 2nm chips in 2025 and Apple is among its first customers

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16 series with A18 and A18 Pro chips made using the 3nm process. According to new reports, TSMC will begin mass production of 2nm chips in 2025, and Apple will be one of the first companies to use the new process for its chips.

Here's What We Know

The next batch of A-series chips for the iPhone 17 are expected to be based on TSMC's 2nm process. However, it is still unclear whether all iPhone 17 models will use 2nm chips. Perhaps only the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models will get 2nm chips, while the base models will remain on the 3nm process. TSMC predicts that 2nm chips will improve performance by 10-15% at the same power consumption or reduce power consumption by 25-30% at the same power as a 3nm generation chip.
