The next-generation Cupra Leon will be all-electric

Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths has told Autocar journalists that the next generation Leon will be all-electric. Before that, however, there will still be a facelift of the current generation Cupra Leon, which is powered by conventional internal combustion engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain (PHEV).
Here's What We Know
The current Leon will be updated to meet the upcoming Euro 7 emission standards. This will allow the car to continue to be produced "for the next decade" alongside the sister Cupra Formentor, built on the same platform.
The next generation Leon will be based on Volkswagen Group's new SSP platform. The dimensions of the car will remain approximately the same as now. Thus, the all-electric Leon will be placed a step below the Tavascan in the model range of the Spanish brand.
Most likely, the new Leon will be exclusively a Cupra model, allowing Seat to focus on smaller, more affordable cars. According to Griffiths, such a move will allow the Cupra to move further into the market by focusing on plug-in hybrids and eventually pure electric cars.
The current Seat Leon and Cupra Leon
The fourth generation Seat Leon was introduced in 2020. It is built on the VW MQB platform, technically close to the 8th generation Volkswagen Golf, 4th generation Skoda Octavia and 4th generation Audi A3. Hatchback and station wagon versions are available.

The Leon is also produced under the subsidiary brand Seat Cupra. Cupra versions are equipped with the most powerful engines and have more aggressive design features.
