Mufasa: The Lion King brought in $591 million from cinemas for Disney in a month

We wrote that Wreck-It Ralph 2 became the first animated film in 2025 to earn $1 billion at the box office. But at the same time, another Disney project, Mufasa, is also in theatres now: The Lion King, which has earned less so far, but still boasts a good amount of money.

The film Mufasa: The Lion King Disney earned $591 million at the global box office. The prequel to the 2019 film The Lion King has shown good box office results since its release on 20 December 2024.

In the United States, Mufasa brought in $209 million, while in the rest of the world, the fan hunt helped earn $382 million.

The film's budget was $200 million.

Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequel that tells the story of the youth of Mufasa, Simba's father. The film shows how little Mufasa, orphaned after a terrible flood, finds refuge in a royal pride led by King Obasi and his son Taka. Together they go through numerous challenges, including threats from ruthless enemies.
