Google has partnered with Samsung to launch a new feature called Galaxy Watch for Kids, which is coming today and will be available in the coming weeks. It's a new way to set up Galaxy Watch that allows kids to stay connected without using a smartphone.

Here's What We Know

The new feature works on the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE, available in the US via ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon. To set up, simply connect the watch to your smartphone, select the "child settings" option and activate the eSIM. After that, the smartphone is no longer required to use the watch.

  • Google's role in this process is to use Wear OS and Family Link. Parents can use Family Link:
  • Control who the child can communicate with, as well as block or allow applications to be downloaded to the watch.
  • Track the location of the watch on the map to know where the child is.
  • Limit the functionality of the watch during school, helping your child to focus on the lesson.
  • Quickly find lost watches through Family Link.

In addition, Samsung has partnered with popular children's brands to offer 20 new apps and teacher-approved watch faces. Among them:

  • Barbie Color Creations - a colouring app where children complete weekly projects inspired by Barbie.
  • Crayola Create Play - fosters creativity through short activities and a customisable watch face with colourful pets.
  • Marvel HQ: Groove with Groot - the ability to create beats and dance with Groot using Marvel character watch faces.
  • MathTango - exciting multiplication puzzles with animations and sounds.
    Rubik's Cube® - a watch face with the classic Rubik's Cube.
  • Tech Deck® - a watch face for expressing style.

There will also be two new apps from PBS KIDS: Wild Kratts Creature Power Up and Odd Squad Time Unit, which encourage children to be active and solve problems.
