Epic Games is ready to spend billions to fight Apple and Google for the future of Fortnite on mobile devices

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said the company has the resources to continue its legal battle with Apple and Google for decades to protect the future of Fortnite on mobile platforms. Sweeney emphasised that Epic is ready to invest billions of dollars in this process, as it considers it critical to ensure fair competition and freedom of choice for developers and users.
Here's What We Know
The conflict between Epic Games and the tech giants began in 2020 when Fortnite was removed from the App Store and Google Play after Epic implemented its own payment system, bypassing the 30% commission set by Apple and Google. This led to a series of lawsuits in which Epic accuses the companies of monopolistic practices and restricting competition.
In December 2023, a jury found Google guilty of unlawfully dominating the app store market for Android devices, ordering the company to allow alternative app stores in the Google Play Store. Tim Sweeney commented on the decision, noting that the Epic Games Store and other app stores will be available on the Google Play Store in 2025 in the US without a 30 per cent commission.
Despite these victories, Epic continues its legal battle with Apple and Google in an effort to create a more open and fair ecosystem for mobile apps. Sweeney emphasised that the company is ready for a long fight, as it believes that the stakes are too high to back down.
