Italian atelier Caselani, which specialises in retro Citroën conversions, has created Type-Ami, a special set of body panels that transforms the Citroën Ami electric car into a miniature version of the iconic Citroën Type H van (1947-1981).

Here's What We Know

The Type-Ami is the result of a collaboration between Caselani and the designers of the Citroën Style Centre. It was designed by David Obendorfer, who is known for his bold projects of retro interpretations of classic cars.

Type-Ami was originally planned as a one-off project for Caselani's founder, Fabrizio Caselani. But after the first prototypes were shown at the Citroën 2CV 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), it was decided to put the project into production.

Externally, the Type-Ami almost completely changes the look of the standard Ami, but technically remains unchanged. Key visual features:

  • Ribbed fibreglass body panels that mimic the distinctive texture of the original Type H
  • Signature 'cargo' front end
  • Retention of original glazing, door mechanisms and optics
  • Nine standard colours + custom paint option
  • No need to modify the Ami structure to install the kit. All necessary fasteners and screws are included in the kit.

Despite its retro appearance, inside and technically the Type-Ami is the same Citroën Ami.

  • 8 hp (6 kW) electric motor
  • 5.5 kWh battery
  • Range - up to 75 kilometres.
  • Top speed - 45 km/h

The Type-Ami will make its official public debut on 5 February 2025 at the Retromobile show in Paris. The price of the finished Type-Ami starts at €13,000 ($13,400). A conversion kit for the standard Citroën Ami costs €5,000 ($5,200).
