More than 150 million Nintendo Switch consoles sold: the Japanese company has released an impressive financial report

Nintendo has released its report for the third quarter of the current fiscal year (October-December 2024), and as always, the numbers are impressive.
Here's What We Know
The Japanese giant reported that 150 million Nintendo Switch consoles had been sold as of the end of December, with third quarter sales totalling 4.82 million consoles, down 30 per cent from the same period last year. And analysts believe Switch sales will continue to decline ahead of the new console's release, with the company itself lowering its sales forecast to 11 million units at the end of its fiscal year (by 31 March 2025).
Nintendo Switch is currently the third best-selling gaming console, behind only the Nintendo DS (154 million) and PlayStation 2 (over 160 million).
As for Nintendo Switch games, 53.7 million copies were sold during the said quarter, with total sales exceeding 1.359 billion copies.
Nintendo has released the top 10 best-selling games for Switch:
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 67.35 million copies
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 47.44 million
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 35.88 million
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 32.62 million
- Super Mario Odyssey - 29.04 million
- Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield - 26.60 million
- Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet - 26.38 million
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 21.55 million
- Super Mario Party - 21.10 million
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - 18.06 million
Of course, the company reminded us that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in 2025, which has a good chance of surpassing its predecessor's performance over time. The exact sales date is expected to be announced at the Nintendo Direct on 2 April.
