Golf balls helped Continental create the new EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S tyres

Continental has introduced two new summer tyres - the EcoContact 7 and its sporty version EcoContact 7 S. When developing the new tyres, the manufacturer paid special attention to improving driving performance, noise reduction and dynamic characteristics. The engineers were inspired by golf balls, known for their original external structure.
Here's What We Know
Golf balls have between 300 and 450 small dimples. These dimples reduce air resistance and at the same time provide more lift and a more accurate and longer flight. Continental has transferred this concept to tyre sidewalls and developed the Aerodimple structure. The dimples in the sidewall reduce air turbulence behind the tyre, so that the vehicle has to expend less energy to move.
To reduce road noise, Continental has developed the "Silent Pattern" tread pattern, which features optimised tread block spacing and tread block angle. The resulting pattern contributes to a more comfortable noise perception for both the driver and those around him. Especially at city speeds of around 50 km/h.

The EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S tyres also feature the new "Green Chili 3.0" compound, which differs slightly from model to model. In the base EcoContact 7, the compound helps to reduce rolling resistance, making it highly energy efficient. In the sporty EcoContact 7 S, the rubber compound works for increased wet grip and handling. The sport version also contributes to greater steering precision.
In addition, the new tyres feature the "Smart Energy Casing" technology, which Continental has already tested on the AllSeasonContact 2 all-season tyre. The EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S contain new materials in the carcass, inner layer and wall. These materials reduce friction within the tyre, thereby reducing rolling resistance and improving energy efficiency.
The Continental EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S tyres are designed primarily for electric vehicles, as indicated by the "EV Compatible" emblem on the sidewall. However, they can also be fitted to internal combustion engine vehicles. The new models have already been approved for installation by BYD, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.
Based on measurements under the EU labelling system, both new EcoContact models were predominantly rated A for rolling resistance and grades A and B for wet grip and noise.
