More than 180,000 cars from different manufacturers are being recalled due to the risk of Samsung batteries catching fire

Due to problematic Samsung high-voltage batteries, 180,196 vehicles made by Stellantis, Ford and Audi are being recalled. Stellantis is in the worst situation, recalling 155,096 vehicles, including the hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe (2020-2024) and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022-2024).
Here's What We Know
The reason for the recall is possible damage to the battery separator, the thin layer between the cathode and anode, which can cause overheating and fire. This has been confirmed by the NHTSA (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
Similar problems have been found in the Ford Escape (2020-2024) and Lincoln Corsair (2021-2024). Ford explicitly points to a defect in the manufacturing process of the batteries. As for Audi, no official cause has been given, but the Audi A7 (2022) and Audi Q5 (2022-2023) are considered vulnerable. It is only known that the problem is related to the risk of thermal runaway, which leads to fire.
What should car owners do? Samsung doesn't have a ready-made solution yet, but as a temporary one, a software update that will warn drivers about the dangerous state of the high-voltage battery.
