OpenAI has stated that their artificial intelligence models will not avoid discussing sensitive topics and will not make statements that may exclude certain viewpoints.

Here's What We Know

In an update to their rules, OpenAI emphasised that their models "should never attempt to guide the user in pursuit of their own agenda, either directly or indirectly". The company states that they believe in intellectual freedom, which includes the freedom to have, hear, and discuss ideas.

The statement may be a response to political pressure from the new US government. Many of President Donald Trump's allies, including Ilon Musk and cryptocurrency "czar" David Sachs, have accused AI-powered assistants of censoring conservative viewpoints. Sachs particularly singled out OpenAI's ChatGPT, claiming it is "programmed to be politically correct" and not truthful about politically sensitive topics.

Coincidence or not, it is now OpenAI that will endeavour to ensure that its models are neutral and support freedom of thought and discussion of different viewpoints.
