Meta has announced the launch of a new feature for Facebook that brings back the atmosphere of the classic times of the social network.

Here's What We Know

In the 2000s, Facebook became a place to keep in touch with friends and family, but over time, the platform was flooded with new features, distracting from the main goal. Now Meta has decided to change the situation. The new Facebook option takes you back to 2007.

The feature is centred on the Friends tab, which has undergone significant changes. Now this page will show only content from friends - without recommendations and additional elements.

Users will be able to see posts, videos, birthdays and other updates from friends, as well as receive friend requests. Previously, the Friends tab only displayed friend requests and suggestions.

The update is already available in the US and Canada, and although it's server-side, it's a good idea to update your app to the latest version. To get to the new tab, just click on your profile photo in the lower right corner and select "Friends". For convenience, you can pin this tab to the navigation bar.

To pin the Friends tab:

  • Click your profile picture on your home feed.
  • Tap Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Tab bar.
  • Select to customise the bar, then tap Friends and pin the tab.

Meta promises to gradually bring back other classic Facebook features throughout the year.
